Children’s Programming Resumes at SPL: Dinosaurs, Pokemon & Storytime Spark Fall Fun

Syracuse Public Library 2025 children’s programming returns – dinosaur-themed homeschool class, story time, and Pokemon Club

Children’s programming resumes is back! Join us for a dinosaur-themed homeschool class and a fun story time. Also, library staff invite families to enjoy engaging and educational events.

Children’s programming at the Syracuse Public Library returns the week of August 11. This was announced by the library’s children’s department after a short summer break. Children’s librarian Emilia Layne showcases a mix of paleontology and the alphabet. This blend offers fun and education for families.

The Details:

  • Story time and homeschool class begin on Wednesday, August 13, at 10:30 a.m. We’ll explore the alphabet and read new books. Homeschoolers will explore paleontology and dinosaurs.

  • On Friday, August 15, the Pokemon Club launches at 4 p.m., offering kids a chance to play the card game and socialize.

  • Field day is on Saturday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be at the new lot: 705 N. Dolan Drive. Enjoy yard games and swag prizes, thanks to the WNBA All-Star Host Committee.

  • Library hours are reduced on Thursday, August 12 (noon–5 p.m.) for staff training.

“Home-schooled children can attend, regardless of their library card status,” Layne says. This highlights the library’s commitment to inclusion.

This inclusive approach shows that the SPL isn’t just restarting programs. It’s also widening access. The library mixes educational themes, like dinosaurs and the alphabet, with fun clubs and community events. This makes it a top spot for learning and a favorite place for families to gather.

Reduced hours on August 12 may be a hassle for some families. With many activities happening at the same time, crowding and scheduling conflicts could arise. Balancing teen, kid, and adult programming within limited space may pose logistical challenges.

As fall approaches, SPL will track attendance and feedback from early events. This will help shape the upcoming schedule. If the Pokemon Club or homeschool paleontology sessions are popular, we can make changes. Field day success might lead to more outdoor events. These could be fun, collaborative activities backed by community partners like the WNBA.

"Children’s programming is back this August at SPL. It features a lively mix of learning and play. This marks a thoughtful return to community-focused library activities that welcome everyone."
